INGREDIENTS:

Fritter:
  • 3 Granny Smith apples, peeled and diced into small pieces
  • 1 Tbsp. lemon juice
  • 1 1/4 cup flour
  • 1 tsp. cinnamon
  • 1/4 tsp. salt
  • 2 tsp. baking powder
  • pinch of nutmeg
  • pinch of ground ginger
  • 1 1/2 Tbsp. sugar
  • 1-2 packets Ruvi Clean
  • 2 eggs
  • 1/2 cup whole milk
  • 1 Tbsp. butter, melted
  • 1 1/2 tsp. vanilla extract
  • Vegetable oil for frying
Glaze:
  • 1 cup powdered sugar
  • 1/2 tsp. vanilla extract
  • 1 Tbsp. milk (this may vary depending on preferred consistency)
  • Caramel sauce (optional)

INSTRUCTIONS:

  1. Peel and dice apples into small bite sized pieces, then add lemon juice. Set this bowl aside.
  2. In a large bowl add all dry ingredients and whisk well.
  3. To your dry ingredients add eggs, milk, vanilla, and melted butter. Mix well to combine into a slightly wet dough. Fold in your apples.
  4. Fill a sauce pan with 2-3 inches of vegetable oil and heat to 375 degrees.
  5. Using a measuring cup drop about 1/3 cup of batter into oil. Fry until golden brown, about 5-7 minutes, flipping halfway through.
  6. Transfer to a paper towel lined plate.
  7. Mix up glaze and drizzle over each fritter. Add a caramel sauce drizzle as well for extra sweetness if preferred! Enjoy!

CHEF'S TIPS

  1. If you don't have a thermometer to test your oil temperature use the wooden spoon method. If you place a wooden spoon in your oil and it bubbles around it, it is ready! If it bubbles harshly it is too hot and you will want to cool the oil slightly.
  2. If you are unsure if your fritters are ready, insert a fork into the center and if it comes out clean, they are good to go!

Yields about 10 fritters
